Privacy Policy for Biteify

Last Updated: August 17, 2026This Privacy Policy describes how Biteify ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares your personal information when you use our mobile application ("Biteify" or the "App").

If you are on your phone, click the button above to open the app. If you are on a computer, download Biteify from the App Store.

1. Information We Collect
A. Account Information
When you create an account or sign up on Biteify, we collect:
Your first and last name
Your email address
A username
Profile avatar details (emoji or selected profile photo)
To protect your credentials, we enforce client-side password strength validation (minimum 6 characters, a number, and a symbol). This information is securely stored and managed using our backend partner, Supabase.
B. Health and Dietary Information
To customize your experience and warn you about potential dietary hazards, you may voluntarily configure your:
Food allergies (e.g. Peanuts, Gluten, Dairy)
Medical/dietary conditions (e.g. Diabetes, Hypertension)
Custom ingredients watchlist (e.g. Palm Oil, MSG, artificial colorings)
This data is stored securely in your user profile database on Supabase and is used only to compute safety alerts.
C. Scans and Search History
We save a record of the food products you scan (ingredient lists, barcodes, search queries) to compile your personal history list and sync live activities in your linked family group. Captured food images are copied locally into your phone's persistent sandbox (Documents/ directory) to display in history.
D. Device and Camera Permissions
Biteify requests permission to access your:
Camera: Used strictly to scan barcodes and photograph food ingredient labels.
Photo Library: Used strictly to upload ingredient labels or set a custom profile photo.
Haptics / Vibration: Used to deliver selection bumps during tab navigation and tactile warnings for allergen alerts.
E. IP-Based Country Detection
Upon App launch, we perform a one-time IP lookup using a secure third-party API (ipapi.co) to detect the country you are in. This is used solely to initialize the correct language localization (English, Romanian, Spanish, or French) for a seamless user experience. We do not save or log your IP address on our servers.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information to:
Provide, operate, and maintain the Biteify scanner.
Analyze photographed ingredient lists against your active dietary constraints.
Process calculations and safety advice via the Gemini AI API (Google DeepMind). Note: No personal user identifiers (like names or emails) are sent to the Gemini API—only raw ingredient texts and active dietary constraints.
Synchronize activity feeds among connected members of your Family Group.
Manage subscription licenses via RevenueCat, Apple App Store Billing, and Google Play Billing.
3. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We only share information with third-party sub-processors necessary to run the App:
Supabase: Host database and secure user login authentication.
Google Gemini API: Process ingredient parsing and safety tips.
RevenueCat & App Stores: Verify active premium subscriptions.
Family Members: If you join a family group, other members in that group can see your scanned products, safety statuses, and names in their activity feed. You can leave the group at any time to immediately stop sharing.
4. Account Deletion & Data Retention
We respect your right to privacy. You can permanently delete your account and all associated records directly inside the App settings.
Postgres Trigger Deletion: Initiating account deletion calls a secure Postgres transaction (delete_user) that immediately wipes your profile details, custom watchlists, family connections, and full scan history from all active databases and auth providers.
Local image files stored in your persistent app sandbox are also cleared.
